Naming Ceremonies

Welcome them into the world!

A Naming Ceremony is a non-religious celebration of the birth of a child and an opportunity to ‘officially’ welcome them into the world.

Parents make promises of their commitment to their child and their hopes and dreams for the child’s future.

Grandparents can also be involved by making promises and commitments to their grandchild/ren.

Parents often choose important people to them to act as guardians to the child throughout his or her life and these people accept this role as part of the ceremony.

Ceremonies can include poems, readings and/or other symbolic rituals, such as a sand ceremony.

Naming ceremonies are not legal ceremonies and can take place anywhere and at any time
